Our blended worship is designed to present the good news of God's all inclusive love as we encourage, equip and empower the congregation through prayer, music, dance, excellence in preaching, and relationship building.
Position Summary
MCC of Tampa is a growing congregation with a thriving music program waiting for the next director to continue our quest for excellence in worship. This position is responsible for selecting music within the established criteria for current and growing skill sets, blended worship, scriptural themes with an openness to a wide variety of musical styles and genres. The music director will work closely with the senior pastor and music librarian to support excellence in worship and grow the music ministry. The position is currently 1⁄2 time with great potential to grow the position into a 3⁄4 time to full-time position.
The applicant must demonstrate:
Skills in leading worship through piano accompaniment, both for choral and congregational singing, along with instrumental solo pieces
An understanding of inclusive language, willing and able to inclusify music within the established criteria and provide ongoing education to the music ministry regarding the importance and commitment to this core value
Computer literacy and ability to use technology for communication and enhancement of worship
Skills in choral and instrumental conducting, voice development and sight reading
Ability to plan music and worship collaboratively and cooperatively, reflecting scriptural themes, the liturgical year and the lectionary of appointed Bible and contemporary readings.
Excellent organizational, leadership and communication skills
Ability to direct from the keyboard
Commitment to team building and loyalty to congregational goals and pastoral leadership.
Ability to dentify, recruit, develop, coordinate, and support a large team of worship artists, including vocalists, choirs, liturgical dancers, musicians, dramatic readers, actors, set designers, and graphic designers.
Develop and integrate multi-media (music, video, animation, visual arts, drama, etc) into worship and other programs.
Leadership for the production of special and seasonal music/drama programs and community events from inception to conclusion in a timely fashion, maintaining deadlines, metrics, and deliverables.
Management of relevant budgetary concerns and direct the upgrade of equipment utilized during worship services (musical instruments and equipment, lighting and sound, worship technology, copyright compliance, etc.).
Participate in weddings and funerals as needed within the congregation.
Build relationships with and among staff, church leaders, and volunteers.
Required Qualifications:
Have a mature personal spiritual relationship with God.
Be creative and have an absolute passion for multi-dimensional worship that draws from a broad spectrum of Christian traditions.
Be enthusiastic about our church’s approach to ministry, mission and vision.
Demonstrate strong musical skills and knowledge, including proficiency in piano and voice.
Have a high level of integrity and the ability to gain trust and hold confidences.
Have strong leadership and managerial skills.
Have strong conflict resolution, team building, and interpersonal skills.
BM/BME/BS/BA or advanced degree is preferred and/or minimum of 5 years experience as a music director.
Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with multi-media and sound board technology
The ability to play a variety of musical instruments
Worship experience either as a congregant or music director with the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches and in good standing
In addition, experience in the conception, development and/or production of stage presentations is a plus.
